General Operator`s Certificate for the GMDSS – Shortened
This course is designed for persons, graduated in high or higher education with syllabuses including “Communications”, “Maritime communications” or other subjects, covering topics and hours that are specified in State Standards on education and training of radio operators. The course is to prepare officers to carry communications onboard via the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System – GMDSS, which entered into force on 01.02.1999, to provide safety of maritime navigation and help persons in distress in all sea areas. The course provides practical exercises with: Digital Selective Calling (DSC) system of VHF/ MF/ HF, transceiver operation, satellite communications via Inmarsat Standard Fleet 77, Standard C, EGC, NAVTEX Receiver, Portable Survival Equipment – EPIRB, SART, AIS-SART, Distress Communications, Search and Rescue procedures and keeping of Radio Log Book, General Radio Operations Rules, Good Practice, Battery Maintenance. The course is conducted using a telecommunications simulator.
Persons with minimum higher education, aged over 18 years and medically fit to work at sea. Ship’s master, Master first mate, Master second mate, Officer of the Watch, Telecommunication systems engineer, seafarers who will be in charge to carry proper radio watch and hold GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate
