Basic Safety Training
The theoretical and practical training include acquiring knowledge and skills for immediate action to be taken at the scene of an accident or other medical emergency pending the arrival of a person with medical first aid skills, or until the person in charge of first aid or medical care aboard ship arrives. The persons who have successfully passed the course must:
Know: procedures and actions that can be immediately taken to administer first aid in case of incident, medical problem and illness pending the arrival of a doctor, or until the person in charge of first aid or medical care aboard ship arrives.
Be able to: administer resuscitation in case of unconsciousness, restore breathing and heartbeat, perform splinting, put bandages, stop bleeding and transport an injured crew member.
Course requirements:
The course is mandatory for all seafarers who will work on board of seagoing vessels executing any positions.
The program was developed on the basis of the requirements of STCW Convention 78 as amended (Regulation VI/1 and Table A VI/1-3 of the STCW Convention, Directive 2008/106/ЕС and IMO Model course 1.21.
The present course can be conducted individually or in combination with Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities and Personal Survival Techniques Courses required by Regulation VI/1 of STCW`78, as amended.
Requirements to participants:
- age – minimum 16;
- completed primary education.
