Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
Persons successfully passing this course must:
– be familiar with: the organization for preparations for abandoning ships, signals and activities for marshalling the crew and passengers in meeting points, activities for preparation for launching survival craft, regulations for starting and operation of the survival craft and rescue boat engine, regulations for management of the survival craft, regulations for issuing distress signals using various means (communication and signaling apparatus and pyrotechnics);
– be able to: don and use a lifejacket and an immersion suit, conduct roll calls of persons assigned to the various survival craft, be in charge of the launching of the survival craft including in adverse weather conditions, send distress signals and attract attention using the equipment available onboard the survival craft, fish survivors out of the water.
Course requirements:
The course is mandatory for all seafarers who will be in charge of survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats as laid out in Appendix №1 of Ordinance №6, or who have been nominated by the ship owner or the flag administration.
The program was developed on the basis of the requirements of STCW Convention 78 as amended (Chapter VI, Section VI/2 and Table A VI/2-1 of the STCW Convention, Directive 2008/106/ЕС, Directive 2011/0239 (COD)/EC and IMO Model course 1.23, Edition 2002.
Requirements to participants:
Trainees are required to hold at least a primary school diploma, to be in good health (based on a medical certificate), and be 16 years old. Trainees must have completed the four basic training courses: – „Personal Survival Techniques”, „Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities”, „Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention” and „Elementary First Aid”.
