Personal Survival Techniques

Persons successfully passing this course must:
– be familiar with: Possible emergency situations; types of Life Saving Appliances; equipment of Life boats and Life rafts; principles of personal survival; personal life saving equipment; the organization for preparations for abandoning ships, signals and activities for marshalling the crew and passengers in meeting points, activities for preparation for launching survival craft, activities in the Life boat and Life raft; actions to be taken in the water; main hazards in the water; regulations for issuing distress signals using various means (communication and signaling apparatus and pyrotechnics);
– be able to: don and use a lifejacket and an immersion suit, conduct roll calls of persons assigned to the various survival craft, be able to jump in to the water from white minimum 2 meters , to be able to swim wearing lifejacket and an immersion suit at least 10 meters; to be able to swim without lifejacket; to be able to enter in the Life raft from deck or platform from white minimum 2 meters; to be able for boarding in the Life raft from the water using embarkation lather; to be able to stream a sea anchor; to be able to use the equipment available on board the survival craft.
Course requirements:
The course is mandatory for all seafarers who will work on board of seagoing vessels executing any positions.
The program was developed on the basis of the requirements of STCW Convention 78 as amended (Regulation VI/1 and Table A VI/1-1 of the STCW Convention, Directive 2008/106/ЕС, Directive 2011/0239 (COD)/EC and IMO Model course 1.19, Edition 2002.
The present course can be conducted individually or in combination with Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Elementary First Aid and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting Courses required by Regulation VI/1 of STCW`78, as amended.
Requirements to participants:
Trainees are required to hold at least a primary school diploma, to be in good health (based on a medical certificate), and be 16 years old.
