Persons successfully passing this course must:
Know: the organization of fire fighting on board; the location of the fire-fighting equipment and the ways of evacuation; elements of the fire and the explosion (fire triangle); types of fire sources; the risks of origination and spreading of fire; the need for constant vigilance; actions in case of fire on board; way and means of fire detection; classification of fires and the applicable fire-fighting agents; fire-fighting equipment available on board ships, including fixed systems, fireman’s outfit, personal outfit, fire fighting devices and equipment, fire-fighting methods, fire-fighting agents, fire-fighting procedures, rules for using the breathing apparatuses in fire-fighting and rescue operations.
Be able to: don the fireman’s outfit; use different types of portable fire extinguishers; use self-contained breathing apparatuses; extinguish small fires caused by damage to the electrical equipment or burning oil products; extinguish large fires with water; extinguish fires with foam, powder or other suitable chemicals; enter and pass with a safety rope but without a breathing apparatus though spaces full of high-definition foam; fight fires in enclosed compartments full of smoke using a self-contained breathing apparatus; extinguish burning oil with a water sprinkler, with dry chemical powder or foam sets; carry out rescue operations with breathing apparatuses in compartments full of smoke.
Course requirements:
The course is mandatory for all seafarers who will work on board of seagoing vessels executing any positions.
The program includes the minimum mandatory requirements for training and certification laid down in Regulation VI/1, Section 2 and Table A VI/1-2 of STCW`78, as amended by IMO Directive 2008/106/ЕС and IMO Model Course 1.20.
The present course can be conducted individually or in combination with Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Elementary First Aid and Personal Survival Techniques Courses required by Regulation VI/1 of STCW`78, as amended.
Requirements to participants:
Trainees are required to hold at least a primary school diploma, to be in good health (based on a medical certificate), and be 16 years old.
