– be able to: inject, catheter and treat and treat wounds; identify different types of marine diseases; to recognize the signs of alcohol and drug abuse and to apply adequate treatment; properly apply procedures in the treatment of dental problems; properly apply procedures in the treatment of shipwrecks; to successfully carry out medical consultations with coastal services providing such services; to prepare a patient for evacuation by ship and / or helicopter; properly keep medical records on board and report to medical authorities; disinfect, sterilize and properly use the ship’s medical instruments; properly use the ship’s medical directory.
Course requirements:
The course is designed for advanced medical training of captains, senior assistant captains and second assistant captains with the aim of providing first aid and medical care to injured and sick crew members until they are taken over by trained medical personnel. In accordance with requirements of Regulation VI / 4 and Table A-VI / 4, Items 4 – 6 of the STCW Code 78 (as amended), Directive 2008/106 / EC, Directive 2011/0239 (COD) / EC, Model course 1.15 at IMO, 2002 edition.
Requirements to participants:
Course participants must have a seafarer capacity to occupy the appropriate ship position in accordance with the requirements of STCW 78 (as amended) and hold a certificate of completion of “Elementary First Aid” and “Proficiency in Medical First Aid” training. Participants must meet the following requirements:
– be in good health (based on Declaration);
– be 18 years or older;
– to have a seagoing service registered with the Maritime Administration Directorate – not less than 1 year in the last 5 years. or at least 3 months from the last 6 calendar months.
