Complementary Educational Program for Persons with Secondary Education and Acquired Third Degree of Professional Qualification in “Ship Machinery and Mechanisms” to Meet the Requirements of IMO Model Course 7.04

Training under this program aims for students to acquire knowledge, skills and practical experience required by regulation III / 1 and shown in Tables A-III / 1 of the STCW and in IMO Model Course 7.04, which the trainees have not acquired in full volume during the secondary education as well as to refresh and update their knowledge and skills. Successful passing of this course will enable students to carry competently and safely engineering watch at sea and at anchorage, to perform the duties of duty engineer during cargo handling operations, and as watch- or duty officer in the engine department to contribute in achieving security and safety of the crew, ship and the cargo in normal and emergency situations.
Course requirements:
The course is intended to complement and update the knowledge and skills of those who have completed secondary education with third degree of qualification in “Ship machines and mechanisms” to the required skills and knowledge needed to acquire competency of “watchkeeping engineer on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power and more “.
The course satisfies the requirements of Regulation III / 1 of the Convention STCW’78, as amended, for the preparation of the above persons as referred to in IMO Model Course 7.04 so that they can meet the standards of competency specified in Section A-III / 1 of the STCW Convention Code.
Requirements to participants:
Trainees are required to
– have an approved secondary education with acquired third degree of professional qualification in “Ship’s machines and mechanisms”
– have certificate of competency “Ship’s Motorman” or “Able Seafarer Engine”
– have approved onboard service as Ship’s Motorman or Able Seafarer Engine on ships powered by main propulsion power of 750 kW and more
– submit declarations that are psychically and physically fit to participate in the practical exercises
