VVMU “N.Y. Vaptsarov” trains cadets in a five-year training course in the specialty “Organization and management of military formations at the tactical level” with the following specializations:

  • Navigating for the Navy
  • Marine machinery and mechanisms for the Navy
  • Naval Communication and Radio Engineering Systems
  • Cyber ​​operations
  • Mechatronics
  • Logistics of formations from the Naval Forces

, training of cadets in a six-year course:

  • Military doctor

and cadets in a four-year course of study:

  • Military nurse

In the 2022/2023 school year. new curricula for training cadets have been introduced, accompanied by qualification characteristics and curricula, in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations for Educational Activities of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. In the preparation of the educational documentation of the specializations, the following are taken into account:

  1. National educational and qualification requirements:
    • Ordinance on the State Requirements for Acquiring Higher Education at the Bachelor’s Degree in the Professional Field of Military Affairs in the Specialties of the Regulated Profession of Tactical Level of Management. The curricula fully satisfy the requirements of the Ordinance.
    • Strategy for the Development of the English Language Training System, announced by Order No OH-130 / 02.2011 of the Minister of Defence. The Strategy prescribes a minimum number of hours for English language training, a training system and a procedure for taking an exam for English language proficiency according to the STANAG 6001 standard. The curricula fully meet the requirements of the Strategy.
    • The Physical Education and Sports Act – determines the minimum workload of the compulsory physical education and sports classes. The curricula fully satisfy the requirements of the Act.
  2. EU qualification requirements:
    • The EU Sectoral Qualifications Framework (SEF) for Officers. The EIC is prepared on behalf of the EU Military Committee. It is in full compliance with the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning, as: it defines the learning outcomes that military personnel must achieve; is a means of communication and a reference framework for the National Qualifications Frameworks; is based on the competence profile,  designated and approved by the employer, which is represented at EU level by the EU Military Committee. The curricula fully satisfy the requirements of the EU Coordination Committee for the level of “junior officers” in the training areas in the defined areas of competence (core competencies) of the serviceman.
  3. Qualification requirements in NATO:
    • The document serves as a starting point for training organizations for the development and convergence of the education of officers in professional armies. The plan is organized and structured according to the traditions of Western military academies. There are three levels of training, the first and second corresponding to the level of “Bachelor” and the third – to the level of “Master” according to national regulations. Each of them includes three main directions/topics:  Profession of military serviceman; Command, leadership and ethics; and Defence and Security. The curriculum is successful only if it is applied consistently in the three levels of officer development and is linked to an effective system of training promotions, part of a comprehensive strategy for the development of military personnel. The curricula of the specializations in the specialty “Organization and Management of Military Formations at the Tactical Level” at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy  fully cover the topics of the first and second levels of the Unified Curriculum for Professional Military Education, adopted by NATO.
    • It includes 4 topics: Cyberspace and Fundamentals of Cybersecurity; Risks and Their Manifestation; International Organizations, Policies and Standards for Cybersecurity; and Cybersecurity Management in the National  Context.NATO’s unified cybersecurity curriculum has been fully implemented. In the Cybersecurity Specialization Curriculum, the NATO Unified Cybersecurity Curriculum is introduced through the implementation of a larger volume and deeper knowledge in technical topics, due to the nature of the professional field.
