Dr. Milan Vego JMO Professor US Naval War College Newport USA

Prof. Dr. Milan Vego was born in Caplina, Herzegovina and is a graduate of the former Yugoslav Naval Academy (Class 1961).  He served as a line officer in the former Yugoslav Navy (1961-1973), left former Yugoslavia in 1973 and worked as Third and Second Mate (Deck) on board West German ships (1973-1976). In February 1976 he was granted political asylum in the United States and has been a US citizen since April 1984.

He received a B.A. in Modern History, University of Belgrade (1970); M.A. in Modern History, University of Belgrade (1973) (U.S. History/Latin American History); Master Mariner’s License (1973; validated in Germany); Ph.D. in European History, the George Washington University (1981).

Prof. Vego worked as a free-lance writer and lecturer (1979-1991); adjunct professor, the George Washington University (1984); Visiting Fellow, Center for Naval Analyses (CAN), Alexandria, VA (1985-1987); Research Fellow, Foreign Military Studies Office, U.S. Combined Arms Center, Ft. Leavenworth, KS (1987-89); Adjunct Professor at the Defense Intelligence College, DIA (1985-1991) and at the War Gaming and Simulation Center, National Defense University.

Since 1991 he has been a Professor of Operations, JMO Department, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI and a tenured professor since 2001.

On 07.11.2012 Prof. Dr. Milan Vego was awarded the title of Honorary Professor at N.Y.Vaptsarov Naval Academy by the Academic Council.
